(New Orleans, Louisiana) – An icon returned to Superdome this past weekend, and his welcome-home applause was deafening.
New Orleans Saints icon Drew Brees, who will soon be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, returned to the playing surface of the Superdome for the first time, and as soon as his name was announced, the crowd erupted.
The Savannah Bananas sold out the dome for two separate shows, and each “Game” had a local celebrity take part in the fun. For the first game, the team brought our current Saints quarterback, Tyler Shough, and he stole the show.
Check out as Schough takes the field, and even tosses a touchdown pass in an impromptu football play.
And while that was a great surprise for fans in attendance on Saturday evening, it got even better on Sunday afternoon when the Savannah Bananas brought out Super Bowl-Winning Quarterback Drew Brees.
While Drew has been in the dome since he retired as a New Orleans Saint, this was the first time he returned in a competitive way. Listen to the road of the crowd as soon as Brees is introduced. Also, not only do you see the appreciation on Brees’ face at the welcome, but you can’t help but notice his competitive nature as soon as he looks towards the crowd.
If you’re asking if Drew took part in the game, yes, he did. Watch as Brees bats and unfortunately grounds out to shortstop. What’s interesting to me here is that he batted left-handed.
After that experience, Drew spoke to a reporter down on the field, and here’s what he had to say about his surprise appearance in the Superdome. Ad yes, the ground actually shook as soon as his name was announced.
