An Instagram post from ETalkCTV shows the two coming very close to each other ― just one person apart at one point ― but manage to avoid making direct contact.

It’s possible neither noticed the other, but either way, it’s probably a good thing considering Spielberg made some pointed remarks about Chalamet’s recent controversial take about the popularity of ballet and opera in modern society.

Spielberg also threw out a shot during a panel last week at SXSW while discussing the importance of movie theaters.

The director said that while he enjoys working with Netflix, the real film experience comes “when we can influence a community to congregate in a strange, dark space where all of us are strangers.”

“At the end of a really good movie experience, we are all united with a whole bunch of feelings that we walk into the daylight with, or into the nighttime with,” he added. “And there’s nothing like that. It happens in movies, and in concerts. And it happens in ballet and opera, by the way.”

As the audience cheered, Spielberg said that “we want that [experience] to be sustained. We want that to go forever.”

HuffPost has reached out to both Spielberg and Chalamet for comment. But it appears neither of them made a point to talk to each other at Sunday’s Oscars, as the video below demonstrates.
