Timothée Chalamet ‘had enough of being the butt of the jokes’ after being roasted at the Oscars.

The 30-year-old Marty Supreme actor had been a frontrunner to take out the best actor award at Sunday night’s ceremony; however, it was awarded to Sinners star Michael B. Jordan.

As well as having to contend with not taking home the trophy, Timothée was also called out by host Conan O’Brien for recent controversial comments he made about ‘no-one caring’ about ballet and opera.

The comedian couldn’t help but poke fun at the actor, directly addressing him in the opening monologue.

‘Security is extremely tight tonight. Just got to mention that, yeah, I’m told there’s concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities,’ he quipped.

The camera cut to Timothée, who then smiled and laughed. ‘They’re just mad you left out jazz,’ Conan then added.

Later in the evening he singled him out again, saying to Timothée: ‘We’re vibing, right?’ He then told viewers: ‘He doesn’t think so.’

The repeated taunts were reported to have frustrated the actor and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, 28, with the pair said to have walked out of the ceremony for over an hour.

‘Timothee and Kylie were replaced by seat fillers for an hour. It seems like he had enough of being the butt of the jokes,’ a source told The Sun.

‘They only came back just before the best actress and best actor categories were announced.’

During the Oscars, Timothée also faced a jibe during a winner’s speech. Alexandre Singh, who won best live action short film for Two People Exchanging Saliva, also took aim at what the actor had said during his speech, in which he declared: ‘We believe art can change people’s souls.

‘Maybe it takes ten years, but we can change society through art, through creativity, through theatre and ballet – and cinema.’

During the event, he also had to sit through a musical number from Sinners, which saw ballerina Misty Copeland perform.

Last week she called out Timothée, saying: ‘I think that it’s important that we acknowledge that, yes, this is an art form that’s not “popular” and a part of pop culture as movies are, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have enduring relevance in culture.’

She went on to say that there was ‘a reason that the opera and ballet have been around for over 400 years’ and added that Timothée ‘wouldn’t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren’t for opera and ballet and their relevance in that medium’. ‘So, all of these mediums have a space, and we shouldn’t be comparing them,’ she added.

Almost as soon as he made his comments about ballet and opera, Timothée tried to backtrack, declaring: ‘I just lost 14 cents in viewership. I just took shots for no reason.’

He went on to add: ‘All respect to the ballet and opera people out there.’

Following the comments circulating online, the actor was called out by stars including Steven Spielberg, Doja Cat, and even the Royal Ballet and Opera.

Many others also pointed out the irony that the actor’s grandmother, mother, and sister were all members of the New York City Ballet.
