Kate Middleton highlighted British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker with her attire on Wednesday for the ceremonial welcome for the President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu in Windsor, England.

For the royal engagement, the Princess of Wales wore a gray coat with white accents from the designer’s fall 2024 collection. The streamlined design featured long sleeves and a double-breasted, A-line silhouette.

White buttons and further white fabric accented the angular collar and lapels. The Princess of Wales accentuated the gray color scheme with a pair of Boss pumps in a shade of anthracite. The coat was further underscored with a gray and white hat by London-based milliner Jane Taylor.

As for final touches, Middleton carried a Mulberry black bag and added a sentimental touch with the Collingwood pearl and diamond drop earrings, which have a rich history in the royal family. The earrings are a frequent favorite of the Princess of Wales and were also a prized jewelry piece in the late Princess Diana’s accessory rotation.

Based in London and an alum of Central Saint Martins, part of the University of Arts London, Coker launched her eponymous label in 2021, following time at such labels as Celine, JW Anderson and Maison Margiela.

Coker’s designs are influenced by the politics of identity and social climates. Prioritizing unisex pieces, the couturier’s designs put a focus on deconstruction and sustainability. With her platform, Coker has become a champion of inclusivity, partnering with organizations like Choose Love, Amnesty International and The City of Joy.

Middleton’s choice to integrate Coker’s design into her royal wardrobe elevates her occasion dressing with a layer of reverence for the 2026 state visit from the president and first lady of Nigeria. The state visit markes a historic moment, with President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu conducting the first state visit to the United Kingdom by a Nigerian leader in 37 years. The state visit will be hosted at Windsor Castle and include a state banquet, among other events.
