In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly inked a multi-year $100-million deal with Netflix through their company, Archewell Productions. The couple has released several projects under the deal, including Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus, Live to Lead, Polo, and With Love, Meghan.A Netflix exec has weighed in on reports that the streamer has tension with the former royals behind the scenes.
Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in exchange for a low-key California life in March 2020, the couple has been hard at work pumping out several projects for Netflix. Since 2022, they’ve dropped Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus, Live to Lead, Polo, and the Duchess’s lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, which is switching up its format after two seasons.
But after Variety published a report that suggested Harry and Meghan had a “falling out” with Netflix over behind-the-scenes tension, a streamer exec is clearing the air.
Netflix Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, addressed the claims during the Next on Netflix Event on Wednesday, March 18. She not only confirmed that they’re still developing projects for the streamer but also debunked Variety’s recent report altogether, saying, “Don’t believe whatever you read. Maybe we should all do a little fact-checking.”
Bela shared that Harry and Meghan “have things in development on the TV and film side,” adding, “Deals come and go all the time. There are deals that are deals we don’t renew.”

Though Netflix has “so many deals” in motion, she noted that the lack of media coverage for them is due to “obvious reasons,” as they aren’t attached to huge names like Meghan and Harry’s. “I guess there’s no juicy story there,” she said, shrugging off the rumors.
Her response comes one day after Variety claimed that Netflix was caught off guard by the couple’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and the publication of Harry’s memoir, Spare, in 2023.
The piece also included a claim about the Sussexes’ interactions in meetings, with sources claiming that Meghan “tends to talk over or recast Prince Harry’s thoughts, sometimes while he is mid-sentence (usually preceded by a touch to the arm or thigh).”
In a letter to Variety, the royal couple’s attorney, Michael J. Kump, pushed back on these claims, saying it “seems calculated to play into the misogynistic characterization of her bossing her husband around.”
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement, claiming that the outlet’s claims that Netflix was unaware of the Oprah conversation were “categorically false.”
The rep added, “Netflix and Archewell had legal counsel involved to oversee the evolution of the deal, as is common practice for any deal changes in Hollywood.”
As for the fate of As Ever, which first started in 2025 alongside the Duchess’s With Love, Meghan series, a spokesperson revealed the Netflix partnership dissolved in a statement released on March 6.
“As ever is grateful for Netflix’s partnership through launch and our first year. We have experienced meaningful and rapid growth, and As ever is now ready to stand on its own,” the spokesperson told Peopleat the time.
A Netflix spokesperson also chimed in, adding, “As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently, and we look forward to celebrating how she continues to bring joy to households around the world.”
