HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – A dreaded task has become a little more fun in one classroom at Adams Central Elementary School.
Students in Sarah Snell’s fourth-grade class have been surprised throughout the school year with different local ‘celebrities’ to give their weekly spelling test.
“I think it’s fun,” said Elliott, a fourth-grade student. “It gives students a chance to see people they don’t get to see in person.”
Guest throughout the year have included Local4 Meteorologist Travis Klanecky, members from the Hastings Police Department, and admin within the district.
“It’s fun because you get to see people and ask them and see what their jobs are and stuff,” said Luke, a fourth-grade student.
Students get the chance to ask each guest about their job, things they like to do, and Elliott even likes to ask the guest what their favorite flavor donut is.
“It was funny when one of the people said they didn’t have a favorite donut when I asked, that’s my favorite question,” said Elliot.
“It helps the students learn about people in our community, and get a chance to interact with them, what they do professionally, and it helps them learn about what people do in our district.”
Mrs. Snell said this has been a hit with the students throughout the year.
“It makes it fun and engaging, it’s kind of a novelty,” said Snell. “So I have found it to be a great way to take maybe a more tedious task or maybe something that’s not a favorite task and turn it into something fun.”
