Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has shared an update on Amazon’s first James Bond movie, teasing that something is coming “soon”. Currently known as James Bond 26, the film sees Knight write the screenplay while Dune’s Denis Villeneuve is on board to direct.

So far, a title for the film or an actor to play 007 has yet to be announced, though Callum Turner is a favourite for the role.

Speaking to Variety, Knight was asked how his Bond film was progressing, replying: “I mean, I can’t give any details, obviously, but I’m loving it. It’s so much fun.”

Asked if we would be hearing an update soon, Knight said: “Yeeesss. [Sounds unsure] Depends on what you mean by “soon”, but yeah. I mean, things are moving along quite nicely.”

Of course, the update could simply be a title reveal rather than a casting announcement. With Casino Royale, the last time a new Bond was introduced, we learned the title in February 2005, Daniel Craig was confirmed a few months later, and filming began in January 2006.

A similar timeline would make sense for the next Bond, especially if Denis Villeneuve does not start filming until after Dune 3 is released in December, as has been widely reported.

Earlier this month, Knight offered another update, telling BBC Radio 4: “I can’t really talk about what I’m doing with Bond but I’m enjoying every single second of it. It’s fantastic. I’m loving it.”

Speaking about Ian Fleming’s collection of novels, he added: “The books are so good. So underrated as literature. There’s something about the world that he created that is tangibly real, and yet it’s not real. It’s almost dreamlike somehow. And I just love the way, the style of how he writes, and the dialogue is so good.

“Which is what I’m always looking out for. I’ve got a very particular way I want, you know, I want this to go. I’m working with fantastic people, the best people, and people will have to wait and see.”

In 2025, long-time Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, relinquished creative control of the Bond franchise as Amazon MGM Studios took over creative control after forming a joint venture with the pair.
