Authorities in Middle Tennessee concluded an investigation and won’t pursue charges after a video circulating online showed the actor Alan Ritchson in an alleged physical altercation with a man in a residential neighborhood over the weekend.

The incident involving the “Reacher” and “War Machine” star took place on Sunday, March 22 in the city of Brentwood, an upscale area in Williamson County south of Nashville, authorities said.

Officers responded to the area after “several witnesses” called 911, Brentwood Police Department Captain Steven Pepin told USA TODAY on Tuesday, March 24.

But Pepin later in the day said officials decided against bringing charges related to the incident after reviewing video footage and statements from the witnesses.

“Mr. Ritchson’s actions were found to be in self-defense,” Pepin said in an email to USA TODAY. “Although a potential reckless endangerment charge was considered, Mr. Ritchson declined to pursue charges.”

“The case is now closed, and no further action will be taken,” he said.

In one video posted on X, the footage shows a man in a blue shirt, identified as Ronnie Taylor, appear to purposely step in front of Ritchson on a motorcycle in the middle of a residential street, causing him to crash.

“Are you kidding me, dude?” Ritchson says in the video after the wreck.

The man goes on to say he called police because Ritchson was “driving around this (expletive) neighborhood like a (expletive) lunatic.”

Another video posted online by TMZ shows Ritchson’s bike on the ground, and the actor appears to allegedly hit the man several times.

USA TODAY has reached out to Ritchson and a spokesperson for comment.

Man involved in Alan Ritchson altercation: ‘I did push him’

In an interview with TMZ, Taylor admitted he first shoved Ritchson.

“I did push him because he was coming towards me on his, on his bike,” he said. “He did it again for a second time. I pushed him a second time, and I think the second time he got off his bike and kicked the crap outta me.”

Police have not released additional details about the case, including what they say officially led up to the skirmish.
