Savannah Guthrie Sobs Wondering If Mom Nancy Was Targeted Due to Her
Savannah Guthrie is sharing a glimpse into what she has been going through since her mom Nancy Guthrie disappeared. On Thursday, March 26, the “TODAY” show aired Guthrie’s interview with former co-anchor Hoda Kotb, her first since the 84-year-old was reported missing on Feb. 1. During the emotional exchange, Guthrie revealed that she found out her mother was gone when sister Annie called her in a panic. In disbelief, Guthrie then spoke with her brother Camron, who she noted had a career in the military, saying he “saw very clearly right away what this was.” She began to sob as she detailed their exchange. “He said, ‘I think, she’s been kidnaped for ransom.’ And I said, ‘What?’ And then, I mean, it sounds so like how dumb could I be – but I just I didn’t want to believe – I said, ‘Do you think because of me?’ And he said, ‘I’m sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe.’” Guthrie continued to reflect on the possibility that the abduction was for ransom before breaking down in tears apologizing to her mother if in fact she was targeted because of her fame. “I’m so sorry mommy. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in law. I’m just like, so sorry. I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry.” The 54-year-old additionally revealed her mom’s physical condition and spoke about the ransom notes. She also shared how her kids have been handling the situation after condemning the “cruel speculation” that suggested her immediate family was involved. “It’s unbearable. And it piles pain upon pain,” she said. Plus, Guthrie stressed the need for answers amid the ongoing investigation as she later recalled a meaningful moment when she connected with God.
