Megyn Kelly has hit out at Hoda Kotb for showing a candid display of emotion during her recent interview on Today. Earlier this week, Hoda interviewed fellow Today host Savannah Guthrie about the disappearance and suspected abduction of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.
Following her departure from Fox News, Megyn worked at NBC from 2017 to 2019, the same network as Savannah and Hoda. In 2018, NBC decided not to renew her contract, following her defense of Luann de Lesseps darkening her skin while dressed up as Diana Ross. Now, on her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, the conservative podcaster is slamming her ex-coworker.
Megyn Kelly thinks Hoda Kotb shouldn’t have cried
In the new podcast episode, Megyn gave her opinion on the Today interview “from a journalistic perspective.”
“With respect, I have to say I think Hoda Kotb fell down on the job, and I don’t think she was the woman for the interview,” she said. Then, she offered a theory about why Hoda was tasked with the major interview — Savannah’s first since her mother’s suspected abduction.
“[NBC] put her out there because they use this as a promotional vehicle. The two are friends, look, ‘We’re a big family, look at them relating,’” she claimed.
Then, Megyn claimed the network made the unorthodox decision to keep Hoda’s mic on “for her empathetic sounds and her active listening.” She called the alleged move “a major distraction” and a “very odd” choice.”
“Normally, the network would turn down, hold Hoda’s mic during Savannah’s very compelling answers,” Megyn claimed. “Especially in an interview this big.”
Moreover, Megyn accused the network of emphasizing Hoda’s emotional reaction to her friend’s traumatic experience. She claimed the microphone was used as a form of emotional manipulation by NBC. “I’m telling you, NBC had an agenda here, which was to show you one big, happy family. Look how empathetic she is,” the podcaster said.
