Josh Duhamel is sharing his thoughts on why celebrities should stay out of politics.

The 53-year-old Ransom Canyon actor opened up about his beliefs while appearing on conservative podcast host Megyn Kelly‘s show.

Josh said, “I have real strong opinions about things but I don’t really talk about it because it’s like, ‘Why would I alienate half my audience?’ Because I respect their views on things but I’m not going to preach to them. They can believe what they want to believe. I’m just here to, you know, make cool stuff.”

Megyn replied, “Speaking for people who are more, you know, on the right side of the aisle, I feel like that’s all we want. We don’t need to share out points of view on the big issues of the day, but we definitely do not want to be lectured by Hollywood leftists. I don’t think you’re a leftist.”

Megyn brought up the “growing trend” of celebrities who are staying silent, citing Jennifer Lawrence and Sydney Sweeney as two stars who are keeping their views to themselves.

“If you really want to be successful in this business, why would you make half of your audience despise you by your beliefs? Maybe they don’t care. I don’t know,” Josh continued. “I mean, I look at it as a business decision, you know? I’m here just to make cool movies, cool TV. I’m here to make cool stuff. I’m the court jester, you know? If I want to preach to you about what I believe politically, I will go run for office, which I’m not [going to do].”

On the same podcast, Josh also spoke about being bothered by ex-wife Fergie‘s success during their marriage.
