We’ve reached another weekend, and usually that means the first question I end up asking myself is simply “what am I going to watch?” If you face a similar conundrum, fret not: a great selection of must-watch movies has landed across many of the best streaming services this past week. If you’re struggling to choose what to watch, I’ve already put together a quick list of watchlist-worthy movies that are new on streaming.
One thing you’ll probably note scrolling through this week’s options is that there’s a clear theme in common between almost all of these flicks: “survival.” If you’re after a silly creature comedy, you could opt for “Anaconda” on Netflix, or Prime Video just became home to an intense action thriller that sees a ballet troupe locked into a fight for survival.

If you’re on the hunt for laughs this weekend, your first port of call should be Netflix, which just got Tom Gormican’s meta action-comedy, “Anaconda,” which TG’s Malcolm McMillan branded the best comedy of 2025!
This fresh spin on the ’90s “classic” survival thriller sees best friends Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) heading to the Amazon to remake their favorite creature feature as a micro-budget indie movie. Griff accidentally kills the serpentine stand-in they’ve hired on day one of the shoot, but that’s only the start of their troubles: soon, they find themselves being hunted by a real giant anaconda, with an appetite to match. Cue screams, chases, and plenty of silliness.

“Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice” is a breezy action-comedy that puts a high-concept, sci-fi twist on the gangster movie formula, and if you want some easy, fun viewing for the weekend, it’s definitely worth investigating.
Here, we meet Mike (James Marsden) and Nick (Vince Vaughn): “Quick Draw” Mike wants to get out of the game and spend his time with Alice (Eiza González), but his associate Nick lures him back out into the field for one last gig. Reluctantly, Mike agrees to help him out, and that decision sets in motion a bizarre chain of events that involves a time machine and sees all three individuals scrambling to get hold of the situation in order to survive the most dangerous night of their lives.

Following in the balletic footsteps of last year’s “John Wick” spinoff, “Ballerina,” Prime Video has delivered an action thriller that sees five ballerinas in jeopardy: Vicky Jewson’s “Pretty Lethal.”
What to read next
When their bus breaks down en route to a prestigious dance competition, the ballet troupe (Iris Apatow, Lana Condor, Millicent Simmonds, Avantika, and Maddie Ziegler) takes shelter in a creepy roadside inn in rural Hungary owned by Devora Kasimer (Uma Thurman), a former ballet prodigy. And when that situation turns deadly, our dysfunctional dancers have to set aside their differences and put their training to lethal effect to escape with their lives.

The second creature feature on our weekend watchlist this week is a very different movie. “Anaconda” might be a silly adventure comedy with some serpentine jeopardy thrown in for good measure, but Johannes Roberts’ “Primate” is a gory flick that’s made for horror fans.
Here, a Hawaii vacation home becomes the site of a nightmare when Ben the chimpanzee starts exhibiting some strange behavior. Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah) and her friends were planning to take advantage of an empty home when her father was called away on business, but when Ben turns homicidal, they have to try and find a way to outsmart the raging ape.

My final recommendation this week would be Sam Raimi’s bloody, brutal survival thriller, “Send Help.” This wildly entertaining, darkly funny flick whisks us away to a deserted island alongside office worker (and “Survivor” superfan) Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) and her obnoxious new boss, Bradley Preston (Dylan O’Brien).
En route to a corporate event, the two become the only survivors of a deadly plane crash. Linda and her boss wash up on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere. Their dynamic is flipped on its head as the pair are forced to work through their differences in order to try and make it out alive… though it soon becomes clear that this fight’s going to be as much about mind games as it is about staying alive.
