Mary Cosby was questioned by authorities about her son Robert Cosby Jr.’s alleged domestic violence incident just weeks before his death.

According to TMZ, a Salt Lake City Police report showed that the “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star spoke with the police on Jan. 9, 2026, about Robert Jr. and his ex-wife Alexiana Smokoff’s relationship.

The reality star told officers she didn’t see her late son and his wife fight much. Cosby acknowledged that the pair got into verbal arguments, but said she was not privy to any physical interactions.

Authorities say the Church leader denied her son was violent and shared that she did not raise him that way.

Cosby claimed she did not see any injuries on either party while they were under her roof. However, one time Robert Jr. and another person jumped off a balcony while high.

However, Smokoff had called law enforcement on Nov. 23, 2025, to report an alleged domestic violence incident with Robert Jr. that occurred in May 2024.

Smokoff claimed that Robert Jr., who was incarcerated at the time of the report, became enraged after she threw his drugs in the toilet six months earlier “because she was tired of his drug use.”

According to the court documents, the incident allegedly took place at Cosby’s Utah home.

Per the outlet, Police also spoke with Robert Jr. while he was behind bars. He admitted to being on fentanyl at the time of the alleged 2024 incident and did not remember everything.

Robert Jr. also told police that he did confess to his mom that he was physical with his then-wife. He said he thought he was in “psychosis” for a while because he was “acting erratic and irrational.”

Smokoff filed for divorce in November 2025 following three years of marriage. The exes secretly tied the knot at a Utah courthouse in August 2022.

The divorce was finalized in January.

Robert Jr. previously spent two months behind bars for violating a pretrial protective order against Smokoff.

As part of his Feb. 3 release, he was ordered to complete 75 hours of community service and complete substance abuse and anger management classes during his 24 months of probation.

The 23-year-old, who had been open about his drug issues on the Bravo reality show, was then charged with felony aggravated assault and felony assault on Feb. 5, just two days after he was let out.

Robert Jr. was found dead on Feb. 23 after officers “responded to an overdose call that turned into a death investigation.”
