The Wachowskis’ cult classic 2008 live-action film adaptation of Tatsuo Yoshida’s 1960s anime series “Speed Racer” is coming back.

The title will be available for purchase digitally in 4K Ultra HD and on 4K UHD Disc on May 19th. The new video release includes a featurette in which the directors recall making the film with a clip of that available below.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Pictures, in partnership with Flashback Cinema, will also present special theatrical screenings of the film the week of April 25th in 225 locations across the United States.

Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and Matthew Fox starred in the film, which was a box-office flop at the time, grossing $94 million from a $120 million budget.

Reviews were also mixed, but over time the title has been given a retrospective reappraisal and has frequently appeared on lists of the most underrated films of the 2000s and its distinct pop art-style visuals have come to be appreciated with time.

A sample 4K clip from the new release has been posted by Warner Bros. Entertainment and can also be seen below.
