LEGO has officially revealed three new Toy Story sets releasing in May, just ahead of Toy Story 5’s theatrical debut. Among these new sets, there’s the first ever 18+ build in the history of the franchise: Slinky Dog Bookends.

This new set is following the trend of LEGO creating higher priced Disney sets specifically targeted at adults. The Slinky Dog bookends are meant to be displayed, rather than played with, and join a growing lineup of LEGO Book nooks and bookends that started getting released last year. The Slink Dog set is up for preorder now at the LEGO Store with a release date of May 1, 2026.

Looking back, there have actually been quite a few LEGO Toy Story sets over the years. The first sets were released back in 2010 to promote Toy Story 3 and the theme has only grown since then. However, every setup until now has been targeted more at kids than adults. This transition to target a more adult audience is unsurprising when you remember that the first Toy Story movie came out all the way back in 1995. Kids that fell in love with these Pixar movies are now well into their 30s and 40s, which is why more and more Disney gifts are starting to focus on an older demographic.

The Slinky Dog set itself is made up of 1,311 pieces and includes two minifigures: Woody and Slinky Dog. The bookends are made up of two different-sized LEGO books with Slinky Dog attached at either end. It looks very similar to the Wicked Bookends set that was released last year, which I found to be really well done when I put them together. The only issue I found with these types of sets is that they aren’t great for displaying larger hardcover books as the set is only 8 inches tall. Thankfully the set also features an alternate configuration that is more fitting as a shelf display than functional bookends.

In addition to the Slinky Dog set, LEGO has two other display-focused sets up for preorder. These sets have a much lower age rating, but it’s clear that the company is targeting a much wider audience than just the 9+ age group. These other two sets are also much more affordable than the bookends, with the Lotso set coming in at just $39.99. Both of these new sets are also up for preorder with a release date of May 1.

Toy Story 5 is set to hit theaters everywhere on June 19, 2026. The new trailer was released earlier this year teasing the return of Woody and some of the dangers of technology when it comes to playtime. The latest film is arriving more than 30 years after the first movie and is the longest-running Pixar movie series to date.
