It’s that time of the month again! Yet another book about the royals has come out, and it contains some pretty fascinating intel about Queen Elizabeth’s relationship with Prince Harry at the peak of his drama with the family.

According to writer Hugo Vickers in the upcoming Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History (via Page Six), Her Majesty refused to take phone calls from her grandson unless a witness was in the room for record-keeping. Note: she allegedly started this after Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview.

“Whenever Prince Harry called his grandmother, she asked her lady-in-waiting to stay with her,” Hugo writes. “The distress the Sussexes caused the Queen in the last years of her life cannot be overestimated.”

He also notes that the Queen judged Harry’s decision to step away from senior royal duties, saying “And now Harry has opted out, and for what? To be a carer for Archie?”

Meanwhile, a source tells Page Six that once Meghan and Harry moved to California, Harry’s calls with the Queen became less…verbose. The insider says the Queen intentionally remained “monosyllabic” during the chats, and that “There were lots of one word answers, ‘yes’ and ‘no.’”

“The Queen clearly wanted some kind of protection,” they said, noting that she kept a witness around for “moral support and protection… to ensure there was a record of what was said. I think the Queen was also on her guard with Harry because she was so hurt by what he had done.”

Yikes, etc.!
