Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to the United States to mark the country’s 250th anniversary of independence later this month, with the royal couple due to visit between April 27 and 30. President Donald Trump has been a longtime admirer of the Royal Family, and on the latest episode of the Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, royal expert Samara Gill said The King could be the key to repairing relations between the two countries.
“I mean, this will be his most important task to date as the King,” Gill said. Noting that “we’ve got the world on a knife’s edge at the moment, sort of teetering on World War Three,” the TalkTV presenter says King Charles could step in to ease tensions.
“I’m not trying to be over dramatic here,” Gill continued. “But yes, Trump is unpredictable…The King is pretty much the only person that he actually listens to.”

Donald and Melania Trump visited Britain in September 2025 after taking part in a prior state visit during the president’s first term. President Trump shared his excitement to see The King and Queen again later this month, writing on X, “I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!”
Although the full itinerary for The King and Queen’s trip hasn’t been released yet, President Trump noted that they’ll be attending a state dinner at the White House on April 28. United States House Speaker Mike Johnson also announced that The King will “address a Joint Meeting of Congress” ahead of the glamorous White House banquet.
Sources involved in the planning of The King’s state visit recently told the Telegraph that the trip “can’t come quickly enough” amid tensions between Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“If you think about it, he listens to no one, Trump,” Gill told the Royal Exclusive show. “The King is going to have to do diplomatic gymnastics here in order to pull something off.”
