Prince Harry may be edging closer to a family reunion. On June 6th, Peter Phillips, the eldest son of Princess Anne, is getting married to Harriet Sperling. The ceremony will be hosted in Gloucestershire, at St. James’ Church in Kimble, a meaningful location for the royal family. Many members are expected to attend, with there being some signs that Prince Harry might be among the guests.

Vickers writes that rumors about Philip’s health in 2019 were so serious that contingency plans were reportedly considered to delay the general election. He adds that some believed the Duke was determined to hold on so as not to disrupt the vote.© UK Press via Getty ImagesThe royal family during the funeral of Prince Phillip

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry’s appearances at family events have been carefully managed. He attended the funerals of his grandparents and King Charles III’s coronation, though in a more limited, protocol-driven role. The brothers also reunited for a tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales, but beyond that, distance and formality have defined most of their recent interactions.

Weddings have proven trickier. Recently, Prince Harry and Prince William were invited to the wedding of the Duke of Westminster, with Harry ultimately declining due to scheduling conflicts, avoiding the possibility of him overshadowing Prince William, a long-running concern for the royal family.

Peter Phillips’ wedding might provide Harry with the right leeway to attend. The event is strictly private, with no official royal role attached, and as Phillips’ second marriage, it’s expected to be much more relaxed. That shift in tone could make a difference.

There are also signs of easing tensions. Last September, King Charles III reportedly met with Prince Harry at Clarence House, laying the groundwork for a possible reconciliation.

Family dynamics matter here, too. Peter Phillips, along with his sister Zara Tindall and Princess Eugenie, has remained neutral during recent tensions. They’ve often acted as a bridge, offering warmth during difficult moments, like on the Queen’s Jubilee service and the funeral of Prince Philip, where Peter was positioned between William and Harry.

Logistics may also be on Harry’s side. This year’s Invictus Games will take place in Europe, with the Duke of Sussex expected in Düsseldorf from June 12 to 14, days after the wedding.

Other reports also suggest that Harry wants to reconnect with his family, with him expressing interest in receiving an invitation from his father to spend time at Sandringham this summer, a place that’s tied closely to his childhood.

Security remains a key factor, but there have been positive developments regarding arrangements for Harry and his family in the U.K.

Still, despite the apparent desire for a reunion, there’s no clear sign of a thaw or improvement between Harry and Prince William. The brothers have maintained their distance ever since Harry decided to step back from the royal family, with William keeping his distance during Harry’s last visit to Windsor.
