Some new details about Johnny Coyne’s warlord character from The Mandalorian and Grogu have surfaced, alongside a familiar supporting role from The Mandalorian series. Mild spoilers ahead…
In a now-removed listing from Odeon that explains what the film’s cast of characters are up to, a small profile revealing two key roles in the movie tells us some details on Coyne’s Imperial Remnant antagonist and an unexpected rival that he has (via TobeyFunk on r/StarWarsLeaks, who spotted this before it was taken down). Here’s what the site had to say in a profile for both characters:
“Jonny Coyne and Dave Filoni play rival fighter aces. In the brimstone-red corner, Jonny Coyne plays a survivor from the fall of the Galactic Empire, now leading a brutal splinter group. Meanwhile, in the electric-blue corner, Mandalorian and Grogu producer Dave Filoni plays the New Republic’s X-Wing ace Trapper Wolf. In this dogfight-to-end-all-dogfights, someone is going down.”
It appears that, going off of this description, Coyne and Filoni are going to be on opposing sides of this conflict, suggesting that Trapper Wolf might just serve as an ally to the two title characters as they face off against other Imperial forces, along with revealing the possibility that Coyne’s villain character will get inside a starfighter at some point.
Wolf has previously had direct interactions with both the Mandalorian and Grogu, and has been indirectly connected to their adventures as part of the New Republic’s military operations. Filoni is, of course, the co-creator of The Mandalorian series, serving as a producer and co-writer on The Mandalorian and Grogu and is now overseeing its release as Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer.
Filoni reportedly also voices another character in the movie – the bounty hunter Embo, who appears to cross paths with both of the title characters in another portion of this galaxy-spanning adventure. Though the character looks a lot like Embo, Lucasfilm hasn’t even confirmed that it is indeed the same bounty hunter yet…
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.
