Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is officially back on the streets—and, true to form, his return is already raising eyebrows. The Brooklyn-born artist revealed on Instagram Friday (April 3) that he had been released from the Metropolitan Detention Center after completing a three-month sentence tied to multiple violations of his supervised release.

In the video, 6ix9ine appears energized, greeting friends outside the facility and immediately stepping back into the spotlight with his signature flair.

A Release With a Head-Turning Twist

His exit from custody wasn’t low-key. The rapper was met by celebrity jeweler Vobara and quickly began recounting one of the more bizarre details of his time behind bars, including an encounter with Nicolás Maduro.

According to 6ix9ine, he managed to get Maduro’s autograph on a SpongeBob toy he calls “Sponge9ine.”

Why He Was Locked Up Again

This latest stint behind bars stems from repeated violations of his supervised release, a condition tied to his earlier federal case. According to AP, authorities cited narcotics, as well as a separate battery incident at a Florida shopping mall.

As a result, the court imposed a 90-day sentence along with an additional year of supervised release once freed.

This marks yet another chapter in the rapper’s turbulent legal history, which includes a high-profile racketeering case and prior incarceration before his early release in 2020.

Career at a Crossroads

While 6ix9ine remains one of hip-hop’s most recognizable—and polarizing—figures, his chart performance has cooled in recent years. He hasn’t appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 or Billboard 200 since 2020, signaling a shift in mainstream momentum.

Still, he has an ability to command attention. His release video, combined with the unexpected Maduro anecdote and his trademark theatrics, positions him once again at the center of conversation.

Complicating his return, recent reports indicate that a woman—allegedly his girlfriend—was arrested after attempting to break into his Florida home multiple times.

Now back in the public eye, 6ix9ine faces a critical moment. With an added year of supervised release.

It is still unclear if he will pay Maduro’s a visit or contribute to his commissary.
