There will be a new actor emerging from the shadows as Aragorn in the forthcoming Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum, with the news that Leo Woodall has been confirmed as the future King of Gondor.

While director Andy Serkis had previously confirmed to ScreenRant that a new actor was being sought to step into the iconic role perfected by Viggo Mortensen in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy, he had distanced himself from any speculation.

“I don’t know what’s out there at the moment, but I know there’s a lot of speculation, but let’s just say we are recasting the role and we are on the way to finding someone”

However, Elijah Wood has been acting like Frodo in The Prancing Pony and has let slip on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that Leo Woodall (Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy) is indeed set to play Aragorn and that he has “tough boots to fill”. Take a look at the clip below…

The news comes hot on the heels of Kate Winslet joining Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen in Middle-earth. Set for release sometime in 2027, The Hunt for Gollum tells the story of “Aragorn’s quest to capture Gollum between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring, tracking him to keep the Ring’s location from Sauron. The film explores Aragorn’s early adventures as a ranger.”
