Peter Andre has shared an update after his wife Emily was diagnosed with shingles. The Mysterious Girl singer, 53, is married to NHS doctor Emily, 36, and has Millie, 12, Theo, nine, as well as 23-month-old Belle with her but also has Junior, 20, and 18-year-old Princess with ex-wife Katie Price,

Last week, Emily, who has developed a fanbase of her own thanks to presenting stints on programmes like Lorraine, revealed she had been suffering from the medical condition that is caused by the same virus behind chicken pox, and wanted to speak out about it because it is not normally associated with those in her age bracket

Now, former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star Peter has given an update on the situation, and commended his wife for speaking out even though it was “very painful” for her, as he noted she is “through the worst” of it all now, much to his relief.

Writing in his new! magazine column, he said: “It was great Emily spoke out about her shingles diagnosis – she wants to help others and make them understand it from a medical point-of-view.

“I was really surprised when she told me but she didn’t make a fuss at all, even though it was very painful for her. It was very interesting to see how she handled it and explained to people how it needs to be dealt with. I think she’s through the worst now, thank goodness.”

Emily, who has amassed more than 750,000 followers during her time in the public eye, opened up about the condition herself, where she told fans about the symptoms

Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she told followers: “Hi everyone, I wanted to share something a bit personal, but also hopefully helpful. You might have seen my videos this week I mentioned I had a minor health issue.

“Basically what’s happened is I’ve been diagnosed with shingles. So as a doctor I thought this was a good opportunity to do a bit of education around what shingles is. You might associate shingles with older people by the way – and you would be right because that is the most common age group affected.

“I’m definitely a bit younger than the typical demographic but it can happen at any age which is why it’s worth knowing about.”

She added: “Just to explain briefly what shingles is, it’s caused by the same virus that gives you chicken pox. After you’ve had chicken pox, which many people do in childhood, the virus stays dormant in your body and it can then reactivate later in life as shingles.

“So in terms of what you might expect if you had shingles, it usually starts with pain, tingling or sensitivity in a specific area and that’s often before you see anything on the skin.

“For me personally, I noticed a pain and just odd sensations under my arm here and then a couple of days later the rash appeared on my back on one side. It is typically just on one side of the body, often in a band or a strip. It then develops into fluid-filled blisters that can be quite painful.”

She wrote in the caption: “As always, do refer to the NHS website for more information, and seek medical advice if you’re unsure about anything. Let’s just say… not exactly how I planned to spend the week, but a good reminder to listen to your body and get things checked if something doesn’t feel right.”
