We’ve followed that up with one of the all time classic sci-fi films in James Cameron’s The Terminator – still a banger all these years later. Finally, we’ve picked out a cult classic zombie musical. Can you guess what it is?

Chris Hemsworth stars alongside his fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo in this gripping thriller, based on Don Winslow’s 2020 novella. Hemsworth plays jewel thief Mike Davis, a notorious criminal who nevertheless has enough scruples to make sure that his crimes are non-violent. When a diamond heist goes wrong, however, he encounters Ormon (Barry Keoghan), a psychotic thug who does not share his qualms about bloodshed.
After a short run in cinemas, Crime 101 is now streaming on Prime Video where it seems to have found a more appreciative audience. It’s currently in the number one spot on the streamer’s film top 10, and number 2 in its combined TV/movie chart. If you enjoy pacy thrillers with a great cast, this one is for you.

The Terminator
THE TERMINATOR (1984) | Official Trailer | MGM – YouTube

Watch On
Available: US/UK
James Cameron’s 1984 sci-fi classic is a lean, mean b-movie with style. Linda Hamilton stars as Sarah Connor, the innocent young woman who, one day, will be the mother of humanity’s savior in the war against a genocidal AI called Skynet. To prevent its own destruction, Skynet sends a Terminator – a killer cyborg that can blend in with humanity (though they should probably have chosen someone other than Arnold Schwarzenegger if that was really their intention) – to assassinate Sarah.
Even after all these years The Terminator remains a gritty masterpiece, as Sarah fights to survive. Its sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day is arguably the better (and certainly the more ambitious) film, but the original has it beat for sheer pulp thrills.

Anna and the Apocalypse
ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE Official Trailer (2018) – YouTube

Watch On
Available: US
This horror musical has become a bit of a cult classic in the years since its release. Anna Shepherd (Ella Hunt) is planning a year of travelling before she goes to university. Unfortunately, her plans are put on hold when the zombie apocalypse happens and Anna and her friends are forced to fight off hordes of undead – but with songs!
Filmed and set in Scotland, Anna and the Apocalypse is a zombie flick with a difference. Like High School Musical with decapitations, or a cousin of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s great musical episode, this is a riotously fun and amusingly sardonic take on a well-worn genre. It helps, of course, that the tunes are actually pretty good.
