When it comes to successful music exports from this country, Niall Horan has reached the very top of the list over the last decade or so.

The Westmeath man experienced a huge amount of success as part of One Direction, selling millions of albums and going on sold out stadium tours all over the globe. Since the breakup of the band, he has gone on to forge a hugely successful solo career that has seen him release no.1 albums in both the USA and UK.

All of this was up for discussion when he appeared on The Tommy Tiernan Show on Saturday evening, although the comedian was equally as intrigued to hear about Niall Horan’s football team of choice.

Tommy Tiernan Baffled By Niall Horan’s Football Team

Niall Horan is a big sport fan, having even gone as far as to enter the world of professional golf by opening a golf management agency.

However, his first love was football.

Appearing on The Tommy Tiernan Show, the 32-year old revealed that he was an avid supporter of Derby County. It was a revelation that the presenter was taken aback by.

Horan: The weekend with my father, we used to go across to England to support Derby County.

Tiernan: What?!

Horan: Funnily enough, you’re not the first man that has ever given that reaction.

Tiernan: Never mind the parents separating when you were five. How do you end up supporting Derby?

Horan: My father is 66 this year and in the early 70s Brian Clough was the manager of Derby. We got promoted and won the league, back-to-back promotions. He was the king at the time, my father was listening on the wireless and it was either Leeds United or Derby County. Thankfully he picked Derby County.

Then he would bring us across, whatever money he had was spent on Derby County. To this day he’s still the same, he’s over there every other week. The shlepping around the UK I’ve done to watch that time.

Niall Horan’s fandom of Derby County is something that has previously been well discussed, with the Irishman spotted at their games on a number of occasions after becoming a well-known musician.

He will be hoping that the Rams can have a strong finish to this season, having dropped out of the Championship play-off places in recent weeks. They currently sit in eighth position, four points off the play-off spots.
