While everyone else suffers from a classic case of the Mondays, fans of NBC’s The Voice: Battle of Champions are rejoicing as they get comfortable on the couch for another new episode.

This week, we saw the championship-level coaches—Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and John Legend—and their teams take on the second “Knockout Round,” narrowing down their original teams of 10 to the final three members apiece. But that’s not all the drama that was in store for this evening, as the show also introduced the first-ever All-Star Showdown.

Last week’s shocking Knockout Round

As noted above, the first Knockout Round was one for the books, with the competition losing another crop of talented singers. This time, the contestants were tasked with picking their own tune (as opposed to the Battle Rounds, where the coaches chose the music for them), which helped highlight who might be stage-ready and who needed a little more time to hone their voice.

And of course, there were plenty of celebrity friends on hand to help the coaches get their teams ready for battle, with Cee Lo Green mentoring both Levine and Legend’s teams, while Michael Bublé was there to mentor Clarkson’s team. There were also no “Steals” or “Saves” for this round, meaning the coaches’ final calls were, indeed, final.

After six head-to-head rounds last week, six competitors were eliminated in total, two from each team. This left the coaches with four singers apiece going into tonight. Before the start of tonight’s episode, the teams were as follows:

As noted above, tonight will also mark the show’s first-ever All-Star Showdown. According to NBC, “each of the three coaches got to bring back two artists they’d worked with during past seasons to battle it out on stage on their behalf.”

Jared Shoemaker vs. Jaali Boyd

Boyd selected “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie for her performance, revealing that she deeply related to the lyrics. Levine applauded the choice, calling it a “smart move.” Meanwhile, Shoemaker chose “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” by Travis Tritt, saying it was the perfect mixture of country and rock to showcase his voice.

Following the showdown, Clarkson said Boyd’s voice was her favorite, but she preferred Shoemaker’s song choice. Legend agreed, but still noted he’d choose Boyd overall. After all was said and done, Levine selected Shoemaker to move forward, saying he did the best of the two “today.”

WINNER: Jared Shoemaker
