When Victoria Beckham celebrated her landmark 50th birthday, she was surrounded by her family and A-list pals. But as she gears up to turn 52 next week, the situation couldn’t be more different.

While her eldest son Brooklyn swerved her 51st birthday in Miami last year, this will be her first since he publicly rejected her and his father. Back in January, Brooklyn went on a massive tirade against his family writing a crushing six-slide Instagram post with explosive claims about them.

Now, a source has said that Posh’s birthday later this month will feel more like an ordeal than a reason to celebrate. “Victoria’s dreading it,” the insider told the Mirror. “It’s really, really difficult for her. She’s trying to keep busy with work to distract herself, but her heart is broken.”

It’s a far cry from how the singer-turned-fashion mogul has marked her special day in previous years, when she’s placed her children, including Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 14, at the heart of proceedings. Now, though, birthdays seem destined to become increasingly painful occasions for the family, who were once regarded as one of the most powerful families in showbiz.

Last month, as Brooklyn celebrated his 27th birthday, David and Victoria offered an olive branch, both recognising his special day with loving social media tributes. Taking to Instagram, they posted touching throwback snaps of themselves with their son, alongside heartfelt birthday messages.

Sharing a photograph of himself and Victoria cradling Brooklyn as a newborn, father David penned, “27 today. Happy Birthday Bust. We love you x.” Using the identical image alongside a monochrome picture of herself with Brooklyn as a youngster, Victoria wrote, “Happy Birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much.”

Unfortunately, the messages are expected to have irritated Brooklyn, who lashed out at his parents’ “performative social media posts” in his scathing online declaration. Last month, he failed to address mum Victoria publicly on Mother’s Day, choosing instead to post on Instagram wishing his mother-in-law, Claudia Heffner Peltz, a happy birthday.

“Victoria knows she’s going to be ignored by Brooklyn – he’s totally blanking her with every form of contact,” the insider said. “The gushing birthday post about Nicola’s mum was just a knife to the heart.

“She thinks he purposely did it to hurt her and just doesn’t understand. David thinks Brooklyn has been cruel and is at the end of his tether now. He doesn’t want to talk about Brooklyn now.”

With Brooklyn now out of the family, it’s understood her other three children – who all seem to be “Team Mum and Dad” – will be doing everything they can to make her birthday as special as possible. In recent months they have rallied around Posh at crucial moments, including Paris Fashion Week, where she was awarded one of France’s most prestigious honours, the Knight of the National Order of Arts and Letters, at the capital’s Ministry of Culture.

David, Harper, Romeo and Cruz – alongside the guys’ respective partners, Kim Turnbull, 24, and Jackie Apostel, 30 – watched with pride as she accepted her honour. Harper subsequently shared a touching message to her mum, penning, “My biggest role model x”.

Most recently, the Beckhams turned out in full to back Cruz as he and his band took to the stage at the Courtyard Theatre, Hackney, London on 27 March. However, despite Cruz’s triumphant tour providing some comfort to his mother, the unnamed insider revealed she’s still grappling with the rift from her eldest.

“It’s all becoming too much,” they explained. “The rest of the family have been amazing, and they are all going to be showing Victoria what a wonderful mum she is on her birthday, but it’s going to be a difficult day for her.

“Cruz, in particular, can see how much his mum is hurting; he’s really been there for her and is very understanding and empathetic.” The former Spice Girl has frequently discussed the significance of family, and as recently as last October emphasised that being open is crucial.

“The way we’ve brought up our kids is all about communication. It’s good to talk,” she said. “As a family, we try to have dinner together every night – it’s phones down and ‘What has everyone done today?’ Just making sure that it’s a safe forum for everybody to be honest and talk and laugh.”
