The Batman: Part II has just confirmed a major cast return as Andy Serkis is set to reprise his role of Alfred Pennyworth alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, aka the Caped Crusader.
A follow-up to The Batman, released in 2022, the upcoming film sees Matthew Reeves back in the director’s chair, with the director co-writing the script with Mattson Tomlin.
Set for an October 2027 release, the film has confirmed we’ll see more of Serkis’ Alfred, aka Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler.

As reported by Deadline, a potential scheduling conflict between The Batman: Part II and Serkis’ new Lord of the Rings movie The Hunt for Gollum has been resolved, with Serkis now officially appearing in the DC movie which starts shooting in June in London.
However, the actor won’t be joining production in its first phase, as he told ScreenRant. Speaking about the sequel, Serkis told the outlet he “won’t be joining them immediately,” but “by the end of the year, I will be”.
Plot details about the new Batman film are thin on the ground, though protagonist Pattinson teased a “crazy” script.
“I mean, the script is so good…. I think it’s kind of crazy,” he told Filme Gitmeden Önce.

“The first one was like a little bit of a different type of Batman movie, and this is like really a different type of Batman movie,” he added. “I think hopefully people will be really pleasantly surprised by it. Yeah, I’m really excited.”
Expectations are high given that putting the final touches on the script was behind the sequel’s multiple delays. Originally set for an October 2025 release, the film was pushed back to October 2026 and then again to October next year.
Addressing the delays in a chat with The Hollywood Reporter last year, Reeves said “there have been so many things going on” but confirmed production would start in 2026.
“This next year is very much about getting into production and getting the movie going and we’re really excited about it,” he said.
The Batman: Part 2 is set to be released in cinemas on 1 October 2027.
