Prince Harry was criticised for his “new Sandringham fishing expedition” after reports claimed the Duke would “love” to be invited to Norfolk by his father, the King. The Duke of Sussex will return to the UK this summer to attend events linked to his patronages and passions, including the one-year countdown event to the Invictus Games and the WellChild awards.

The Times cited sources claiming the Duke wants to bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to spend “family time” in England, but only if security is provided, with Palace sources showing reluctance, before Harry’s side clarified the Duke had not requested a Norfolk invite and none was given to him.

Now, news.com.au’s Columnist Daniela Elser weighed in on the Duke predicament, saying: “There are many ways to interpret Harry’s new Sandringham fishing expedition. Two potential ways are: The non-cynical one, a son simply wanting to share quality bonding time with this Pa and to teach his children about the glutinous wonders of a real tea trolley; and the less generous, more narrow-eyed one, which would argue the duke is actually playing a more complicated game.

“At the centre of this latter reading is Harry’s years-long, multimillion-dollar fight to overturn the decision made by RAVEC in 2020 that the Sussexes no longer qualified for automatic 24/7 taxpayer-funded protection.”
