After directing Sydney Sweeney in the surprise box office hit The Housemaid, Paul Feig believes she is more suited to play the next James Bond rather than a Bond girl, as has been previously rumored.

“I’d rather Sydney be the next Bond,” Feig recently told The Sun. “There have been some cool Bond girls, but come on, let her be the super-spy, she’s great.”

He continued, “She’s one of the hardest-working people I know, so professional, so smart, so savvy. I think she’d be a good spy.”

It’s worth noting that Sweeney herself joked about playing 007 during an October 2025 interview with Variety.

“To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it,” she said when addressing the Bond girl rumors.

When asked about her interest in the role, Sweeney replied, “Depends on the script. I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.”

Earlier this year, reports swirled around British actor Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts) as the new frontrunner to star in Denis Villeneuve’s new Bond movie for Amazon. Previously rumored candidates include Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinson.

Sweeney’s casting would certainly be out of left field, but the world is burning, so why the hell not?
