Illumination/Nintendo/Universal’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie will continue to have a gravitational pull on moviegoers in its second go-round with $60M-$70M, between a -47% to -54% ease from its $131.7M 3-day haul. The Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Glen Powell, etc ensemble will keep all its Imax and PLF screens.
Remember, 2023’s Super Mario Bros ranks as the second-best weekend ever for an animated movie with $92.3M behind 2024’s Inside Out 2 which did $101.2M. However, Galaxy Movie is expected to be a bit more front-loaded given that it has very good, not platinum word-of-mouth (62% definite recommend to first pic’s fantastic 82%). However, Super Mario Bros did defy expectations in its second frame.
Super Mario Galaxy Movie made $14.8M yesterday, far and away the best Tuesday so far in 2026, ahead of Project Hail Mary‘s $9.4M (March 24), but it was also the third best Tuesday in April after Avengers: Endgame ($33.1M) in 2019 and Super Mario Bros‘ $15.4M in 2023. Tuesday was -12% from the $16.8M rung up on Easter Monday, which again, was a record Monday YTD.
Universal is also providing cinemas with counterprogramming, the Will Packer and Johanna Byer produced romance You, Me & Tuscany from director Kat Coiro and starring Regé-Jean Page and Halle Bailey. Booked at 3,000 theaters, a high single digit opening is expected for feature which is targeted at Black females. You, Me & Tuscany is also bowing in 21 offshore markets including, the UK & Ireland and Australia.

The first sneak peek of the of the movie hit in November with a TikTok message from Bailey and Page. The trailer then premiered on Nov. 16, 2025 and was amplified across Today, BET, Wicked: The Official Podcast earning over 1M likes. The trailer went on to play in theaters in front of Wicked: For Good, Eternity, The Housemaid, Song Sung Blue, Send Help, Wuthering Heights, Scream 7 and Reminders of Him.
