Nikki Glaser on why the most savage jokes never make it to Globes
Nikki Glaser reveals why her most brutal jokes stay in the writers’ room and never reach the Golden Globes stage.
Nikki Glaser knows “what I’m into” when it comes to her relationship with boyfriend Chris Convy, and she understands it’s a bit unconventional.
In the 41-year-old comedian’s Call Her Daddy interview released April 8, Glaser told host Alex Cooper that she encourages her on-and-off boyfriend of more than a decade, TV producer Chris Convy, to explore sexual relationships with other women.
“Maybe it’s my competitive nature of ‘I want a guy who other girls want,'” Glaser said. “It’s just what I’m into, and I can’t help it. I’m not trying to be cool.”
She clarified that any interaction would have to be consensual for everyone, explaining she’s instructed Convy to “always let the girl know you have a girlfriend.”
The two-time Golden Globes host also revealed her boundaries, noting that while she “wouldn’t care” if she were to have a husband who acts on “a sexual connection with a girl,” she is “hurt” by emotional cheating.
“If he were to watch ‘The Wire’ with her or do crosswords puzzles, or send memes and stuff, I would be like, ‘What the f— are you doing? That’s our thing,'” Glaser told Cooper. “Emotional cheating would hurt me, but physical… I wouldn’t care as much.”
“If something were to happen, I would want them to tell me about it,” she continued. “I just don’t want to be blindsided.”
Glaser then joked, “But if you want to have sex with someone else, also tell me about it because I want to see what she looks like and ask you about it.”
How Chris Convy reacted to Nikki Glaser encouraging an open relationship
The idea of this type of relationship was born from Glaser’s previous relationship, in which she described hearing her partner’s past sexual encounters as “foreplay.”
But she confessed that this dynamic doesn’t come without its issues. In the beginning, she said, “jealousy came up” because at the time she hadn’t told Convy that she wanted the other woman to know he’s in a relationship.
“That tripped me up a little bit, but I was into it,” Glaser said. In the time since, she added, he’s “done some stuff” and “probably wouldn’t appreciate me elaborating on that, but there’s been interesting things that have been really fun for me to hear about and experience. And fun for him, too.”
Glaser also set the record straight on remaining monogamous on her end: “I’m not someone who likes to hook up when I’m in a relationship. I don’t really care about that.”
“I know that this is not how many women feel, and I’m not encouraging any other woman to do this,” she said. “I think, honestly it probably is detrimental.”
Convy and Glaser have been linked together since 2013. He executive-produced her “Not Safe with Nikki Glaser” Comedy Central talk show, as well as her “Someday You’ll Die” 2024 standup special.
