Emily in Palace

Is Andrew’s housing battle finally over? For years, the former Duke of York dug his heels in and refused to vacate Royal Lodge, before the King finally issued him marching orders last October. But that didn’t end Andrew’s wrangling for the perfect property, as he made a string of demands about his new home. He wanted multiple bedrooms (six or seven to be precise – though who knows why, considering all his friends and family have deserted him), a full team of staff, and to keep hold of many of the rare paintings and artefacts he had at Royal Lodge.

Andrew was also unhappy with the property he was given, a five-bedroom former Victorian working farm. He had hoped for something grander, but after a to-and-fro between him and the Palace, he seemed to have realised his pleas were futile, and no matter his objections, Marsh Farm was to become his new permanent home.

He spent months at Wood Farm while extensive renovations were carried out, including the installation of luxury carpets, a Sky dish and beefed up security around the property. Much of that period was spent cooped up indoors, as he passed the time playing video games and binge-watching TV.

Last week, he finally moved into his new forever home, though the timing raised a few eyebrows. Andrew vacated Wood Farm just days after the long Easter weekend, when his brother, the Duke of Edinburgh, had planned to holiday there with his family.

But as the former prince was still living there, Edward and co stayed in one of the estate’s holiday lets instead. Andrew’s refusal to move into Marsh Farm just a few days later prompted accusations of spitefulness – but sources insist there was no falling out over the issue, with Edward and Sophie popping round for dinner while they were in Sandringham.

With Andrew now adjusting to his new surroundings, the King may well be breathing a sigh of relief that the housing dispute has finally come to an end. However, he won’t be drawing a line under the chapter just yet, as he of all people knows just how volatile Andrew can be, and there’s surely to be a new drama brewing.

Highgrove Gardens Glory

Last week I got a behind-the-scenes tour of Highgrove Gardens, including a close-up of the incredible topiary (the ones shaped as a snail and a crown were my favourite), thyme walk and the pink-gated Kitchen Garden to honour the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother’s favourite hue.

Sadly, I visited it the day after we were treated to bright sunshine and soaring temperatures but it didn’t distract from the beauty of the gardens and the innovative ideas the King brought to its design. Everything planted has sustainability in mind, no pesticides are used, and the four-acre wildflower meadow featuring yellow rattle – a plant loathed by farmers as it depletes nutrients from the soil but plays a vital role in promoting biodiversity.

I also got a sneak peek of the childhood treehouse used by Prince William and Prince Harry. Located in the stumpery, it is a reminder that at the heart of Highgrove remains a much-loved family home.

The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex Visit Jordan

An interesting week awaits…

This week is set to be an interesting one for the Firm, with fresh details of the US state visit expected to be announced, Harry and Meghan galavanting in Australia and the Prince and Princess of Wales taking a break from duties to spend the school holidays with their children.

Few details of the Sussexes’ trip Down Under have yet to be released, but Harry will be hoping to remind his family how much of an asset he can be. His team insist this is another private trip, not an unofficial royal tour.

But it won’t stop the similarities from being drawn and their critics from scrutinising their every move, from outfits to body language and everything in between.

The Palace will continue its tried and tested approach of ignoring whatever the Sussexes do. But you can bet they’ll be keeping a close eye on what the couple who turned their backs on royal duty say and do. And William and Catherine will be thankful for no diary clashes.

Queen’s Treasures

An exciting new exhibition has opened at The King’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace, featuring unseen treasures from Queen Elizabeth II’s wardrobe. Launched to mark the century of her birth, the exhibition traces the evolution of her world-famous style across nearly a century of public life.

From her wedding dress to her Coronation dress to outfits worn during milestone moments of her reign, including the iconic camo with James Bond (Daniel Craig) at the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, the exhibition has it all.

It gives an unprecedented insight into her wardrobe, including accessories and the plain outfits she wore when cameras weren’t on her.

The exhibition is on until October 18, so be sure to book your tickets and explore the outfits worn by one of the most recognisable royals in history while you can.
