Gemma Arterton has revealed she has given birth to a second child – keeping her pregnancy a secret throughout last year. The actor, 40, will be back on our screens later this month in new ITV drama Secret Service where she plays MI6 officer Kate Henderson.

And she has been keeping her own secret away from the cameras, with an addition to the family alongside husband Rory Keenan and their first son who was born in December 2022.

Gemma reveals the news in the Dish podcast with hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett. Asked how she is in the opening moments, she replies: “I’m happy to be let out for the day. I’ve got two kids now and it’s just hard.”

She then confirmed her eldest is aged three and the other is “five-and-a-half months” meaning the new baby was born at the end of 2025. Gemma adds: “I’m really well. I’ve just had another kid, and so I’m in the thick of that. But it’s all lovely. And I’m getting back into it again. You know, coming back from the brink of exhaustion. But it’s all good.”

Gemma had fun on the Dish podcast.

Gemma previously kept her first pregnancy under wraps until shortly before she gave birth, confirming she was expecting at the Raindance Film Festival awards in November 2022.

She spoke about her firstborn on a Radio 2 interview with Zoe Ball in February 2023. At the time she said: “We are very very happy, he was born just before Christmas. A little Christmas elf.”

She has not said whether she has had a boy or a girl second time around, and her publicist declined to comment when approached by the Mirror about her happy news.

On the podcast, Gemma went on to say she has been living in the countryside with her family for the last four years, and she enjoyed the gastropubs but missed being able to get good Sushi from when she previously lived in London.

Speaking about her new TV project, Secret Service, and her character Kate, Gemma says: “She isn’t a spy but she’s a spy handler, so she trains spies. And it was really fascinating actually delving into that world, which is a real world. Like these people that work for MI6, which is different to MI5 which is, um, home turf. MI6 is international.

“She’s a sort of maverick. Youngest head of the Russia desk. High-pressured job, obviously, because of the– Well, it’s called the new Cold War…what’s going on with Russia at the moment and the influence they’re having over, certain nations and governments. So she’s in this job and she’s worked very hard to get there and it’s a you know, she’s passionate about it.”

Gemma adds: “Sometimes you watch spy shows and they’re kind of like unattainable people. “But these people that work for, you know, the Secret Service are real people that are living amongst us. And they have, you know, they have lives and they have kids and families and relationships.”

Gemma, who won a scholarship to train at RADA as a youngster, also admitted she missed being on stage and would “love” to return to star on the stage again in the future.
