These modernized renditions of the classic engagement ring feature plays on band styles, diamond cuts, and entirely different gemstones that give their sparklers a more personalized touch.

Over the years, stars have opted for standout rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, as well as stone placements in unique shapes and formations. While some celebrities have gone the antique and vintage route, others have tweaked their custom styles to nod to old-world designs (Exhibit A: the “toi et moi” ring trend) while bringing something entirely new to the look. This Jessica McCormack engagement ring is valued between $100,000 and $150,000 and features a 4-carat elongated cushion-cut diamond that sits horizontally rather than upward.

Lily Collins’s engagement ring, given to her by fiancé and writer-director Charlie McDowell, exudes vintage romance with its rose-cut diamond and square shape. For their second engagement, Affleck gifted Lopez with this gorgeous, one-of-a-kind ring that features an enormous green diamond. The rare gemstone clocks in at 8.5 karats and is secured in a platinum band adorned on the sides with two white diamonds, with the overall ring estimated to cost $5.6 million.

Longoria’s status-obsessed TV alter ego, Gabrielle Solis of Desperate Housewives fame, would approve of the actor’s engagement ring. Her longtime love, Jose Antonio Baston, proposed in the desert in 2015, getting down on one knee with a ruby believed to be around six to eight carats. The stone is halo set in platinum with glittering diamonds, and experts estimate that it cost in the region of $500,000.

Another card-carrying member of the emerald fan club is Halle Berry. When her ex-husband Olivier Martinez proposed in 2012, he did so with a four-carat square-cut Colombian emerald, flanked by two diamonds and set in gold. The scene-stealer, wherever it may be now, is thought to be worth $200,000.

Designed by Lorraine Schwartz, the six-carat heart-shaped dazzling diamond ring reportedly also held the inscription T+S and a heart in between it on the band, referring to the pop star’s real name, Stefani.
