Comedy legends Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are now grandfathers-in-law as their two eldest children have welcomed their first baby together.
Eddie confirmed Saturday that his son Eric and Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin had a baby girl named Ari Skye.
“They just had a baby girl,” Murphy told E! News at the American Film Institute achievement award ceremony April 18. “They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago. Yeah, Ari Skye.”
Fans were stunned when the couple announced their engagement back in November 2024, making Eddie and Martin — who starred together in comedies Boomerang (1992) and Life (1999) — part of the same family.
Speaking about becoming a grandfather, Eddie said that he didn’t have any advice for the new parents, adding: “You know, your kids don’t go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you.”

“The stuff you be saying, they don’t even pay that s*** no mind,” he quipped. “They watch and see what you do. So, I don’t give a lot of advice.”
Jasmin, 30, and Eric, 36, announced they were welcoming their first baby together after tying the knot in a private wedding ceremony in May 2025.
“Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift,” the couple captioned a February Instagram post featuring a black-and-white photo of Eric cradling Jasmin’s baby bump.

At the time, Martin shared that he was elated about being promoted to granddad status.
“What a blessing to start the day!” the comedian wrote on Instagram. “My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude after the announcement of my first grandchild!”
“Watching [Jasmin] and [Eric] begin this journey into parenthood means everything to me,” the 61-year-old continued. “Family is everything — and this moment is nothing less than a blessing from God. Welcome to the next generation!”
Eric is the eldest of Eddie’s 10 children, while Jasmin is also the eldest of Martin’s three daughters.
In 2022, Jasmin revealed that it was her uncle who introduced her to Eric, not their famous fathers.
“It wasn’t even our dads — and they’ve done two movies together,” she told InTouch. “They’re friends. I don’t even know. It’s crazy.:
“But we met through my uncle, and we became really good friends. We bonded on a lot of things. Obviously, we have similar backgrounds, so we understood each other on a certain level,” she added.
Eddie and Martin have made several public jokes over the years about the union of their two children, with Eddie teasing his former co-star that he would have to pay for the wedding as the father of the bride.
“We thought it was cool,” Eddie previously told CBS Sunday Mornings. “They’re both beautiful. They look amazing together. And it’s funny, everybody’s like, ‘What! That baby gonna be funny.’”
On Saturday night, Eddie was honored with the AFI lifetime achievement award and drew a standing ovation onstage.

“This is a special moment. I wish y’all could feel what I’m feeling, see what I’m seeing. I almost teared up. I’m going to get backstage and cry,” he told the crowd.
His contribution to entertainment was celebrated by his contemporaries, including Spike Lee, who said during the presentation: “Eddie made us laugh and made our nation feel better.”
“I took a camera and told stories on how our nation could be better. … We both pushed culture forward…Every step of this journey, Eddie has been true to himself.”
