Charlie’s Angels star Jaclyn Smith has no regrets about turning down the James Bond movie Moonraker.
The actress, 80, was offered the role of Dr. Holly Goodhead in the 1979 Bond film — which featured the late Roger Moore as 007 — but she rejected the opportunity due to a scheduling conflict with crime drama TV series Charlie’s Angels.
The Way We Were actress Lois Chiles, 79 — who had previously been offered the role of Anya Amasova in 1977 Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me — took on the part of Goodhead instead.
While Smith never got a chance to appear in a Bond film, she doesn’t see it as a missed opportunity.
“I had a contract [for Charlie’s Angels] and, you know, Houston upbringing, you follow your contract,” the native Texan said in a Q&A at the PaleyFest LA 2026: Charlie’s Angels 50th Anniversary Celebration on Monday, April 6, alongside her fellow former costars Kate Jackson, 77, and Cheryl Ladd, 74.
“And Aaron [Spelling] was the first to invite me to the party, so I was honoring my contract,” Smith continued of the legendary TV producer. “And I think it wasn’t meant to be. I think things happen for a reason, I really do, so I have no complaints.”

Smith also told how she was once “considered for Beetlejuice“, but didn’t say which of the female parts in the 1988 gothic comedy horror she was being lined up for.
“I just didn’t understand. it. I know, sad. My husband regrets that,” she admitted. “But you read a script, and it doesn’t always ring true to you, and it’s about what you can bring to it.”
Catherine O’Hara — who died in January at age 71 — Geena Davis, 70, and a young Winona Ryder, 54, all appeared in the motion picture, which featured Michael Keaton, 74, as bio-exorcist Betelgeuse.
Smith also explained how “through the years” there have been “different things” she could’ve starred in.

The Nightkill actress went on to reveal how she and John Travolta, 72, were due to appear opposite one another in 1986 erotic romance movie 9½ Weeks “at one point” but she “wasn’t really right for that one either.”
“So, that was Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke,” she said. “You know, it happens. But, you know, I think, certainly, I look at my life as what’s meant to be will be, and it’s been a good journey. It’s really been a good journey.”
