Let’s get one thing straight: Boba Fett did nothing. He showed up in “Return of the Jedi,” got his butt kicked, and fell into a Sarlacc pit.
Yet the bumbling bounty hunter is idolized worldwide by “Star Wars” fans and cosplayers alike.
Ok, maybe I am just bitter because I didn’t place the winning bid on what is now the priciest piece of plastic on planet Earth.
Yep, someone actually paid $1,342,000 for a 3.75-inch toy that was never even supposed to leave the factory.
The winning bid was placed at Goldin Auctions by a super fan last year. So, why is it news now?
Because Guinness World Records says so!
Sorry. That was aggressive. I’m still in my feelings about being out-bid by $1,299,999,995.00.
Where was I? Oh, right… it’s news because Guinness recently crowned the 1979 Kenner Star Wars Rocket-Firing Boba Fett: “The most expensive Star Wars action figure ever sold at auction.”
Ken Goldin from Goldin Auctions told the record-tracking outlet that only 30 prototypes were ever made. However, they were not widely released due to choking hazards for small children.
Another reason this Boba Fett toy is so rare is that only three are believed to exist today, and this one is the highest-graded of the three. Wow, that sounds nerdy when I say it out loud.
The previous record for any toy ever was held by a Barbie designed by Stefano Canturi, which sold for $302,500 in 2010. That Barbie had a real diamond necklace.
The moral of the story: never throw away your childhood toys—because some filthy rich collector could turn them into instant gold.
Instead, somewhere in a Virginia landfill is a decomposing Jabba the Hutt playset my parents sent to an early grave.
I could have been rich!!!!
