The attraction poster is reminiscent of the first concept art Disney shared (below), but viewed from outside the Millennium Falcon rather than inside. Mando holds Grogu as he flies alongside the ship above Batuu. A TIE Fighter and a yellow ST-70 assault ship similar to Mando’s old Razor Crest fly nearby. In the sky above are the ruins of the Death Star, an Imperial shuttle, and an Imperial landing craft.

Three people inside a spacecraft cockpit observe a fiery explosion outside while one of them points towards it. A figure in a Mandalorian suit is visible floating outside the window.

The new mission was announced back at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024. It will debut at both parks on May 22, the same day Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters.  Disney’s partnership with Epic Games helps the new story come to life through Epic’s Unreal Engine, which Lucasfilm also uses to create virtual sets.

In February, Walt Disney World briefly changed the attraction’s name on their website and app to have “A New Mission” as a subtitle.

Here’s the description of the new mission:

Join Din Djarin, the mysterious Mandalorian bounty hunter, and his youngling Grogu on an exciting mission—tracking down elusive ex-Imperial officers throughout the galaxy.

For the first time ever, the crew will be in control of their own destination, leading to potential adventures on Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor or the bustling city-planet, Coruscant.

Plus, engineer positions will now be able to communicate with Grogu during the mission!

New CEO Josh D’Amaro helped shape the update, particularly the enhanced engineer position.

As we learned earlier this year, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run was originally designed with five different missions but was cut down to one due to budget and time constraints.

During the current mission, guests take up the positions of pilot, gunner, or engineer to help Hondo Ohnaka acquire coaxium hyperfuel. It’s a fully interactive ride, with guests hitting buttons and pulling levers. Ohnaka narrates but there’s also a secret “Chewie Mode” which guests can activate before the ride begins, which will make Chewbacca lead the mission instead.
