The Government has been urged to issue a statement after Prince Harry slammed Donald Trump in his Ukraine speech. The Duke of Sussex attended the Kyiv Security Forum yesterday (April 23) to give a speech.

He said he was “not here as a politician” but as “a soldier who understands service” and a “humanitarian”. Although he did not mention Trump by name, Prince Harry urged “American leadership” to “honour its international treaty obligations” in its “enduring role in global security”. Harry said: “The United States has a singular role in this story. Not only because of its power, but because when Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, America was part of the assurance that Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders would be respected.” Donald Trump responded, telling reporters: “I know one thing, Prince Harry is not speaking for the UK, that’s for sure. I think I am speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry.” He added: “But I appreciate his advice very much.” He went on to ask: “How’s he doing? How’s his wife? Please give her my regards.”

Express readers have said the Government needs to respond to Prince Harry’s Ukraine speech. Chris137 commented: “At the very least Buckingham Palace and the Government should issue a very strong and very public statement that Harry does not in any way represent the Monarchy or the UK or the UK Government.”

Shurelll agreed, saying: “It’s time for the government to stop this farce. The UK cannot have this loose cannon flying around the world offering views on Government policy. If the Royals cannot police their own, it’s time the state stepped in and put a stop to this.”

Other commenters said that the Royal Family should be stepping in. Nicholas1 said: “Charles really needs to do something about the (Sussexes).

“They should have their titles removed as a starter to show that they do not represent the Royal Family or more importantly this country.

“Harry has crossed the line now on numerous occasions and got involved in politics. He needs to be taught that actions have consequences.”

Another (Robinred) called Prince Harry a “loose cannon” who wishes he was still part of the Firm. They added that the King should “remind him that he is not important”.
