Walls, walls, walls. There is a lot to say about walls this week as crew members continue work on Piston Peak National Park and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom.
Piston Peak National Park Construction
More concrete was poured into the section of retaining wall near the center of this photo. When we last shared a construction update, the triangular section was just a rebar frame. Now it’s solid concrete.

Crew members were working on the original retaining wall section closer to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This is the tallest section of wall and has been mostly filled with concrete except for some cylinders of rebar.

Tall steel supports were erected outside the scrim-covered fence lining the exit of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. While the scrim and fence are temporary, these supports look like the start of a permanent wall that will separate Big Thunder Mountain Railroad from Piston Peak National Park and the future Disney Villains Land.

A similar row of supports is just barely visible on the other side of the mountain, closer to the Disney Villains Land site.

There has also been some fresh excavation in the construction zone near these supports.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen in just over a week. Final preparations are being made on the attraction. We saw a crew member atop scaffolding in front of the queue building.

The crew member was working on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad sign.

Near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, scrim blocks views of the coaster as it continues testing.
Frontierland Construction Walls
The construction walls near Big Al’s outside Country Bear Musical Jamboree have been extended. The merchandise kiosk is marked for demolition, as is the Westward Ho food kiosk.

The construction walls now surround more of this flowerbed near Big Al’s. The boardwalk remains open and will also remain after demolition/construction is complete — although it will likely be refurbished.

There’s scrim on one side of the flowerbed where walls don’t fit.

Some plants have apparently been removed. The ground is covered by scrim.
