Motor City Machine Guns have a clear path forward following their WWE release, and multiple sources believe All Elite Wrestling will be their next destination.
According to Fightful, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will be without a WWE contract in July when their deals expire following the post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts. TNA sources told Fightful that there is always a home for the team in TNA, but those same sources expect AEW to ultimately be where the duo lands. No contact between AEW and the Motor City Machine Guns has been confirmed at this time.
The AEW connection has a history. Fightful reports that AEW had a genuine interest in signing the Motor City Machine Guns in 2024 and made a formal offer to the team. WWE matched that offer, which led Sabin and Shelley to sign with the company rather than go to AEW at the time. With both sides now free of that arrangement, the original AEW interest could easily be revived.
Those within WWE who spoke to Fightful described the duo as having taken their release in stride, appearing confident they would stay busy and continue performing at a high level outside WWE. Those same sources noted that Sabin and Shelley had hoped for more opportunities within WWE but were at least satisfied that they were being used during their time with the company, though their workload had slowed down in recent months. The two were not even scheduled to travel to last week’s SmackDown tapings.
Motor City Machine Guns joined WWE in the fall of 2024 and captured the WWE Tag Team Championships in just their second match with the company before being released on April 24 as part of the post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts.
