King Charles and Queen Camilla shared a brief moment of royal choreography as they arrived at the White House to kick off their U.S. state visit.

During a photo op with Donald Trump and Melania Trump upon their arrival on April 27, the Queen initially stepped into the spot marked for the King next to the president on the South Lawn — prompting him to give a subtle cue to guide her into place.

Camilla quickly adjusted, and the couple seamlessly settled into their designated positions alongside their hosts, as seen in a video shared to X by royal editor Rebecca English of the Daily Mail.

Behind the scenes, markers had been placed on the ground to indicate where each person should stand, underscoring that even the most formal royal appearances rely on precise staging — and the occasional on-the-fly correction.

The King, 77, and Queen, 78, arrived in America to kick off a four-day trip celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary on April 27.

The video also showed that the monarch kicked his marker out of the way before looking ahead to smile at the assembled photographers.

The spontaneous scene of the King directing the Queen drew parallels to a similar situation that happened during the Trumps’ state visit to the U.K. in September 2025.

Video footage shared online at the time showed that Queen Camilla motioned for Kate Middleton to move with a subtle sweep of her hand a few moments after the Princess of Wales joined the Queen’s conversation with Melania during the official welcome at Windsor Castle.

It was a royal reunion between King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Trumps on Monday, and the American president placed his hand on the King’s back when it was time to walk inside the White House. Trump, 79, seems to have an admiration for the British royal family and praised the King as a “fantastic man” ahead of the state visit.
