Well, now we all know who Taylor Swift voted for in the Best New Artist category last year at the Grammys. The biggest pop star of our time really, really likes Sombr. Swift raved about the young rocker in a New York Times interview about being a songwriter. “I’m a massive Sombr fan, of his songwriting,” she said. “And his lyrics are so intensely confessional: ‘I don’t want another man’s child to have the eyes of the girl I can’t forget.’ Are you kidding me?” (She’s quoting Sombr’s 2025 track “Undressed.”)
Swift continued, claiming that Sombr’s emotional vulnerability in his lyrics will ultimately be good for female songwriters, who are often accused of being overly confessional on their songs. “Having a male artist say stuff like that is really good for the cause of women to be able to say stuff,” she said. “If there’s any way we can make confessional songwriting a little bit more of something that isn’t like people take it as you being messy. You have to be fair to everyone then.”
This is not the first time Swift has talked about loving Sombr. She called him “amazing” in an interview with Morning Mash Up in 2025. She then gifted him a four-leaf clover necklace, which he wore to a December Billboard interview while still refusing to tell the story of her gifting it. “But it was, like, the sweetest message and very, very selfless of her to give me this,” he said. It makes sense. If there’s one thing we learned from her relationship with Matty Healy, it’s that Swift likes an overly confident, lanky rock singer.
