Ozarks Public Television is hosting a free screening May 2 of its newest local history documentary, “Lost and Found on Route 66,” at the historic Fox Theatre, 157 Park Central Square, in Springfield.

Doors open at 3 p.m., with the screening starting at 3:30 p.m. The event is part of Springfield’s Route 66 Centennial Kickoff Celebration, according to a community announcement.

Q&A session with documentary producer and Route 66 Association president

A Q&A session with documentary producer Nico Burasco and Jeremy Morris, president of the Route 66 Association of Missouri, will take place at the conclusion of the hourlong film. The screening event ends at 5 p.m.

“A century after the creation of Route 66, the Mother Road still finds new ways to surprise explorers and provide stories to those who exit the interstate and follow the road less traveled,” Sue Robinson, OPT director of community support, said in the announcement. “Whether it’s forgotten places given a new spotlight or the stories of brave new ventures, Route 66 has found a way to thrive in a new millennium.”

Screening sponsored by Great Southern Bank

The screening is sponsored by Great Southern Bank, and refreshments will be provided. The documentary is sponsored by Liberty Utilities, Great Southern Bank, Citizens Memorial Hospital, and Jan and Gary Baumgartner.

The documentary will premiere on OPT’s main channel at 8 p.m. May 11. It will re-air at 7 p.m. May 12, 8 p.m. May 14 and 21, and 1:30 p.m. May 24. It will be available to stream on video.optv.org on May 12.

“‘Lost and Found on Route 66’ is a love letter to the unique places along the road and to the unique attraction of driving the Mother Road itself,” Robinson said in the announcement. “This documentary invites viewers to pull off the highway, roll down the windows and cruise the backstreets to rediscover this icon of American culture.”
