Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci continued their relentless press tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2 with an interview on the Betches YouTube channel on Tuesday, where Blunt took a moment to dole out some career advice. In the video, Blunt reflected on one of her famous lines from the first movie — where she repeatedly mutters “I love my job, I love my job” — before a producer asked if she had “any tips for girls who are hating their jobs right now.”
“Quit … no,” Blunt replied jokingly before pivoting to a more earnest answer. “Look, I think just find something that you deeply want to do,” she said. “Even if you’re earning no money, as long as you love it, you’ll be happy.”
As you can probably guess, this is not the pro tip people really want to hear from a multimillionaire movie star. A clip of her answer circulated online, where people accused her of being out of touch for not considering that people might need to keep terrible jobs to stay afloat. “Then who is going to pay my rent Emily,” one person tweeted. “That light bill is gonna get paid with hopes and dreams,” someone else wrote.

In fairness, I’m not sure there’s a better way Blunt could have answered this question. She’s been acting since she was 18, and I don’t think she has any tips for search-engine optimizing your LinkedIn page. Maybe we could have avoided this whole thing if we really kept to the spirit of the DWP2 press tour, which has consisted mostly of cerulean Old Navy merch and special Starbucks drinks. What does Meryl Streep think of Target’s DWP tees? What did Anne Hathaway talk about with Lady Gaga? These are the pressing questions we need to be asking.
