Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert is facing life in prison following an indictment on an upgraded charge of first-degree attempted murder after allegedly running over singer Brendan Yates’ 79-year-old father William with a car.
According to The Baltimore Banner, Ebert was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on Thursday, April 30th. and the first-degree attempted murder charge has the potential to lead to life imprisonment if Ebert is convicted. Ebert had already been facing a second-degree attempted murder charge, which carries up to 30 years in prison, as well as first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.
The Baltimore Banner attempted to reach Ebert’s attorney Andy Alpert for comment, but had not heard back at the time of its Friday morning article.
As previously reported, Ebert was arrested after a March 29th incident in which he apparently confronted William Yates and other members of Turnstile singer Brendan Yates’ family. According to a police report, the guitarist drove to William’s home in Silver Spring, Maryland, and initially nearly hit the senior citizen with his 2001 Buick LeSabre, causing the elder Yates to throw a rock at the vehicle. Ebert then backed up the car, and ran over William, severely injuring the elder Yates to the point where one of his bones was sticking out of his leg.

Ebert has since claimed he was acting in self defense, accusing William of attacking him. Turnstile, meanwhile, issued a statement at the time of Ebert’s arrest, saying in part, ““Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community… We have no language left for Brady.”
Turnstile’s first gig after Ebert’s arrest was at Coachella, where the band paid tribute to William Yates by showing a video of him prior to taking the stage.
