Celebrities and tattoos go hand in hand, but many famous faces have gone above and beyond with their ink.
While some, like Billie Eilish and Angelina Jolie, may have started with small tattoos, they soon progressed to massive pieces of body art that take up entire sections of skin.
They’re not the only ones, as rapper Cardi B has dedicated both her thighs and upper back to intricate designs, and Justin Theroux has covered his entire back in a tattoo for his late dogs.

Billie Eilish has a huge tattoo along her spine

Billie Eilish is steadily adding to her collection of tattoos, and in October 2023, she unveiled a massive back tattoo spanning from her neck to her lower back. She also has a large Chinese dragon on her stomach, beginning at her hips and going down her thigh, among other smaller designs.

Justin Theroux’s huge back tattoo

Justin Theroux dedicated his entire back to his two late dogs. “So I had two dogs, both rescues, pit bulls, pit bull mix, and when they died, I dedicated half my back to one and half of my back to the other,” he explained at Vulture Festival. Part of the tattoo includes a portrait of a pigeon and a rat, “because my dog used to kill rats in Washington Square Park.”

The rapper had a huge peacock tattooed across her hip and down her thigh over 10 years ago, which she added more color to in 2020 to give it “a makeover.” She also has colorful roses on the other side of her body, spreading from the top of her back to the middle of her thigh.

Angelina Jolie has over 20 tattoos of various sizes across her body, but her back is heavily decorated with artwork. The actress has a 12-inch-long Bengal tiger tattooed on her lower back, and three designs in the middle, representing four continents and the classical elements of earth, water, air, and fire.

Former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl caused a stir in 2013 when she revealed she spent “the cost of a small car” on a massive tattoo of English roses that covers her lower back and entire buttocks. Two years earlier, the singer confessed that she finds tattoos “addictive.”
“They are addictive, they really are. If it was up to me – and I could be brave for one day – I would have my whole back done,” she told InStyle. “My friends say, ‘Cheryl, please, you might regret it’ – but to me, it’s art.”

Ed Sheeran is covered in tattoos and has well over 60, with no doubt more on the way. While he sees them as a continuous piece rather than individually, the huge inking of a lion he got on his chest in 2015 is the center point for the surrounding artwork that followed.
“All my tattoos are things that I’ve done in my career and they’re all leading to the middle bit which is the lion. I think it looks cool, I don’t really care if anyone else does,” he previously said.
