Renowned American actor John Malkovich has officially been granted Croatian citizenship, highlighting his Croatian roots and connection with the country.

The decision was confirmed by Croatia’s Interior Minister Davor Božinović, who shared the news on social media following a formal ceremony.

During the event, Malkovich was presented with official documentation confirming his new status as a Croatian citizen.

In a brief statement, Božinović described the occasion as both short and meaningful, welcoming the globally acclaimed actor into his new role as a Croatian national.

Malkovich’s connection to Croatia dates back generations. His great-grandparents emigrated to the United States from the town of Ozalj, located in Karlovac County.

Over the years, the actor has visited Croatia on multiple occasions, maintaining ties with his heritage.

Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished actors of his generation, Malkovich has appeared in more than 70 films. His notable roles include performances in The Killing Fields, Empire of the Sun, Dangerous Liaisons, In the Line of Fire, and Being John Malkovich.

In addition to his film work, he is also highly respected for his contributions to theatre. His career has earned him two Academy Award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations, reflecting decades of success in the arts.

During his visit to Zagreb, Malkovich was also received by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković at Banski dvori. The meeting included discussions on Croatian culture, tourism, sport, and business opportunities.

The meeting was attended by Tourism Minister Tonči Glavina and Croatian National Tourist Board director Kristjan Staničić.
