The annual Met Gala in New York City is one of the biggest nights for the fashion industry, but for one council it was the chance to humorously highlight its rules about recycling and waste.

This year’s theme at the event was “costume art”, however Stevenage Borough Council said the creative designs were worn to promote which waste item goes in which household bin.

Kim Kardashian wore an orange bodice by British design duo Whitaker Malem to show that orange peel goes in the food waste caddy, according to the local authority.

Similarly Rihanna’s silver gown from Maison Margiela by Glenn Martens was a reminder that scourers go in the refuse bin, it added.
