Avengers: Doomsday may still be hiding more than Marvel has officially revealed. Fresh comments from Alan Cumming hinted that even the film’s cast members struggled to separate real identities from carefully planted misdirection. As anticipation surrounding the crossover continues to build, the studio appears determined to keep several surprises buried until release day.
Alan Cumming’s latest update on Avengers: Doomsday
Alan Cumming recently shared new details about Avengers: Doomsday during Deadline’s Take 10 interview.
He confirmed Marvel used “secret names” inside the script to protect unannounced characters. Cumming said, “Everyone’s got two names,” while describing the production’s secrecy around returning heroes. He also called the film “superhero soup” because of the enormous cast involved.
Meanwhile, Cumming confirmed he returned as Kurt Wagner, also known as Nightcrawler, for the upcoming Marvel film. He said the screenplay became difficult because “it’s all action” and included hidden character identities. Cumming explained Marvel used alternate names because “they didn’t want” certain returns revealed. He added, “It was so confusing,” while discussing the reading process.
Additionally, the actor revealed he recently completed extra filming for the project at Pinewood Studios. Cumming praised directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo and described the production environment positively. He said, “I really liked the brothers who directed it, and everyone was so nice.” He also confirmed, “I’ve actually got to do another bit of filming on it.”
Cumming also addressed the size of his role and tempered expectations about Nightcrawler’s screen time. He said, “I’m not in it very much, but I really had fun.” The actor described revisiting the character after many years and said the experience felt “really lovely.” He added, “It’s kind of great being a superhero at 60.”
Reports surrounding Avengers: Doomsday continue to suggest Marvel will expand the cast before the film’s release. Recent speculation has mentioned characters including Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Doctor Strange. However, Marvel has not officially confirmed additional appearances beyond the currently announced lineup.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18.
